YINGKIONG, Oct 9 : The Upper Siang district administration has ordered the preventive detention of four persons under the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 2014, citing escalating incidents of violence, arson and destruction of public and private property in parts of the district.
In a press statement issued by, District Magistrate Ashok Tajo, the preventive detention orders were issued against four persons: Adum Tayom of Kumku, Geku; Omak Paron and Okut Paloh of Ramku, Geku; and Oson Paron of Geku.
In its order. Deputy Commissioner cum DM , Upper Siang, stated that the situation in certain areas of the district had remained tense and volatile for the past four months in connection with activities related to the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), also referred to in the release as PFR-related activities.
The administration stated that the action was aimed at containing unlawful activities that it said threatened public safety and security. It also appealed to the people of Upper Siang to maintain peace and tranquility for the overall development of the district.
The administration reiterated that issues concerning the proposed dam project and law and order must be treated separately, cautioning that no one should create disturbances in the name of the dam project. It appealed to the public not to take the law into their own hands and urged all stakeholders to resolve differences through peaceful dialogue.
