NAMSAI, Oct 26: In a major breakthrough against insurgent activities, the Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with Namsai Police & CRPF, apprehended a ULFA (Independent) cadre from a dense jungle area under the Lathao Circle of Namsai district.
The arrested militant has been identified as Anup Dohotia alias Thousen Axom, a resident of Malum Boraiguri, Tinsukia district, Assam. Security forces recovered one MQ-series rifle, 151 live rounds of ammunition, and a bottle grenade from his possession, informed SP Namsai Sangey Thinley.
Dohotia was actively involved in the Kakopathar camp attack that took place during the night of October 16–17. His capture marks a significant success in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the region.
Confirming the development, Superintendent of Police, Sangey Thinley further, stated that the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs, leading to the successful apprehension of the militant. “The arrested cadre himself showed the spot where the arms and ammunition were hidden in the jungle area. The operation is still ongoing, and the police remain vigilant against such anti-social elements attempting to enter Arunachal,” the SP said.
He further informed that an inquiry is underway to ascertain whether the arrested cadre is involved in other criminal activities or if any cases have been registered against him in other police stations.
He also appealed to business establishments and other institutions to update their CCTVs and other security appliances, while also urging the public to inform the police about any doubtful movement or activity in any area.
This development comes just days after one ULFA (I) cadre was neutralised by Assam Rifles in a separate encounter within the same district, underscoring the heightened security operations against the outlawed group along the Assam–Arunachal border.
Security forces have stepped up surveillance in the region to prevent further militant movement and ensure lasting peace in the frontier district.
