ITANAGAR, Nov 1: In a major success against drug trade, the ICR Naharlagun Police busted a heroin trafficking racket and registered a case under the NDPS Act. The operation was carried out on October 31, late night at Banderdewa Checkgate, following precise intelligence input from the Crime Intelligence Unit, PHQ, relayed by Shivendu Bhusan, SP (Crime).
As per Police, a red-coloured Hyundai Grand i10 (Regn. No. AR01K-4291) suspected of ferrying narcotic drugs from Assam towards Arunachal Pradesh was intercepted after an alert police team from Banderdewa PS and supported by CRPF personnel laid a well-coordinated trap.
During the operation, two suspects were apprehended — Yora Tacho (24) of Gandhi Market, Itanagar, and Yora Tate (23) of Bank Tinali, Itanagar. Upon conducting a detailed search, police recovered 95.40 grams of suspected heroin, packed in two soap cases and 47 plastic vials, along with a small amount of cash and the vehicle used in the trafficking.
The contraband and the vehicle have been seized and both accused were arrested on the spot; further investigation is underway to unearth the larger network and supply chain behind the consignment, stated a release issued by the police.
