KHONSA, Aug 24: An emergency coordination meeting of representatives from Joypur  (Assam) truck drivers led by V. Dey, VP, Bajarangdal,  Dibrugarh and representatives from  Khonsa Police, Village Chiefs and GBs and district administration was held here today.
Addressing the gathering, Tirap Deputy Commissioner P.N. Thungon urged the people of Tirap district and Truck Union of Joypur (Assam) in particular and entire people of Joypur, Dibrugarh district as a whole to maintain the age-old cordial relationship. The DC assured of installation of CCTV and Helpline centers at Check Gates and sensitive points for the safety of needy travellers and drivers. The DC further urged the unions and people of  Joypur area (Assam) counterpart to avoid directly resorting to Chakka Bandh culture which hampers the economic growth and interrelation of both the states.
While sharing the suggestions – a representative from Assam emphasized on a lasting solution to frequent harassment of the drivers while plying in the area with the support from Chiefs and Gaon Buras of Tirap.
The Chiefs and Gaon Buras of various villages under Tirap district were instructed to brief and control the youngsters of their respective villages from indulging in anti-social activities or taking the law into their hands.
