NAHARLAGUN, Feb 6: The faculty members and students of Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) staged a silent dharna on Thursday in protest against the recent act of vandalism at the private residence of the institute's Director, Dr. Moji Jini.
The protest, organized by the TRIHMS Faculty Association (TFA), saw participation from doctors, students, and members of the Arunachal Pradesh Doctors’ Association (APDA) and the Indian Medical Association (IMA) – Arunachal Unit. The demonstrators held placards and banners, condemning the incident in the strongest terms.
Speaking to the media, TFA President Dr. Rinchin Dorjee expressed deep concern over the attack, calling it a sad day in the history of Arunachal Pradesh. "We stand in solidarity with Dr. Moji Jini. This silent protest is a tribute to his immense contributions to the healthcare sector in the state," he stated.
Clarifying that the issue is linked to the Water Treatment Plant of TRIHMS and should not be taken personally, Dr. Dorjee informed that a committee has been formed to investigate the matter. "We believe this issue should be resolved peacefully once and for all. Healthcare is a collective responsibility, and such incidents must not be repeated in the future," he added.
He further emphasized the importance of cooperation for the betterment of the state's healthcare system, stressing that the Director's post is an institutional responsibility, and future leaders should also be able to work without fear or disruption.
The Galo Youth Organisation (GYO) has also vehemently condemned the alleged assault on Dr. Moji Jini.
Addressing the reporters at a press conference on Thursday, President GYO Bomkar Gara expressed strong disapproval of the attack and highlighted Dr. Jini’s invaluable contributions to the state's healthcare system. He lauded Dr. Jini’s efforts in establishing and strengthening TRIHMS, emphasising his continued dedication even post-retirement.
Gara urged the public to avoid interpreting the attack from a communal perspective and called for unity and harmony. He also praised the Naharlagun police for their prompt action in arresting the accused and urged the home department to conduct a thorough and unbiased investigation.
The attack has raised concerns regarding the safety of medical professionals, prompting calls for stricter measures to ensure their security, added Gara.
GYO reaffirmed its unwavering support to the medical community and urged citizens to stand with Dr. Jini. The organisation also appealed for responsible discussions and patience as the investigation progresses.
