Minister Ojing Tasing emphasises imbibing national standards in Transport Governance 

Itanagar, Feb 23: During the inaugural session of the three-day capacity building workshop on “Preparedness for Disaster Risk for the Transport Sector: Opportunities to Build Resilience”, Transport Minister Ojing Tasing emphasised on professionalisation of the Transport sector of Arunachal Pradesh by following the applicable CMV Act and Rules in letter and spirit. He urged the senior field officers of the transport sector to remain sensitive to the needs of the people, ensure quick service delivery, and be proactive in taking steps that prevent road accidents and plan effectively for situations of disaster.    
Minister Tasing who inaugurated the three-day residential workshop here at the Administrative Training Institute, Naharlagun while speaking on the occasion sensitised the participating District Transport Officers on the newly launched PM RAHAT scheme under which accident victims will get cashless treatment of upto Rs. 1.5 lac with a target of zero loss of life of any accident victim due to lack of immediate medical assistance. He urged the DTOs to coordinate with the Deputy Commissioners of the districts to put in place the operational systems for the scheme in coordination with the Department of Transport most urgently.  
Tasing further emphasised that frequent landslides, heavy rainfall and challenging terrain make transport resilience a priority for the State. He underscored the need for stronger coordination, safer engineering practices and data-driven planning. 
The training workshop being organised by the Department of Transport, Arunachal Pradesh in collaboration with the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS), Bangalore is being jointly funded by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Department of Transport of Arunachal Pradesh. Attended by District Transport Officers, Station Superintendents, Motor Vehicle Inspectors, Officers of the Dept. of Disaster Management and Transport officers of neighbouring States the training is unique by being residential for over fifty participants.  
Commissioner Transport Saugat Biswas informed that the training is first in the series of such trainings. He said that these are being organised in Itanagar and Naharlagun to ensure maximum access and participation of officers of the State and will be held in collaboration with the best knowledge partners in the domain.     
Amit Mohapatra, Head – Capacity Development, IIHS, in his keynote address informed that the workshop will focus on strengthening the State’s capacity to prepare for and respond to disasters and climate-related risks that frequently affect transport connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh and other north-eastern states. The workshop will cover climate-resilient transport planning, disaster-resilient road safety in hilly terrain, inter-agency coordination, use of GIS and spatial tools for corridor risk assessment, emergency response systems, and integrated infrastructure planning under PM Gati Shakti, he added.  
Director Transport highlighted the importance of building preparedness in a disaster-prone State like Arunachal Pradesh. He informed that through interactive sessions and group discussions, officers will be encouraged to connect policy frameworks with district-level realities during the training.
