ITANAGAR, Jun 22: Pilots from the Paragliding Association of Arunachal (PAA) today received paragliding and other equipment from the Department of Tourism under Chief Minister Paryatan Vikas Yojna (CMPVY) in a small event held here at the office of the Directorate of Tourism.
Seven paragliders of the state who have been trained under the initiative of the PAA at Lumdung were handed over the equipment by Director, Tourism Abu Tayeng in presence of association President Vijay Sonam. As part of the CMPVY, Department of Tourism offers assistance to the unemployed youths of the state for generation of self-employment and promoting adventure tourism. Deputy Director of Tourism (HRD) Bengia Manna Sonam informed that so far 20 unemployed youths of the state who have successfully completed the paragliding courses have been extended support under the scheme. Tagit Sorang, who scaled Mount Everest recently was also supported under CMPVY. PAA President informed that Basar, Anini, Mechuka, Dambuk and Paya near Aalo have been identified as feasible sites for paragliding activities and requested the department of Tourism to include paragliding as an event in all adventure festivals of the state that are sponsored by the department. So far, 40 pilots have been trained by the PAA, out of which 20 including 5 lady pilots have been benefited by the CMPVY, he added.
The Director Tourism while appreciating the efforts of the PAA assured support from the department’s end for developing Arunachal Pradesh as an adventure tourism destination and encouraging new pilots to take up paragliding as an activity of self-employment.
