ITANAGAR, Mar 16: An appraisal meeting on the activities of the Department of Science and Technology under the supervision of Parliamentary Secretary Science & Technology, Tapak Taku was conducted on Thursday at the conference hall of Arunachal Pradesh Science Centre, IG park, Itanagar. 

The meeting was attended by Chairman, AP State Council for Science & Technology (APSCS&T), Bamang Mangha, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, Er. Gaken Ete, Director, and Member Secretary,  APSCS&T Er. T Ronya, and Director, SRSAC, Itanagar H Dutta, among others.

Addressing the gathering, Ronya explained the establishment of the department and APSCS&T, along with their organizational structures and briefed about various activities of the Department of Science & Technology.

Joint Director, APSCS&T Dr. Debajit Mahanta, in his presentation, highlighted the activities of Science & Technology division showcasing the various projects viz Micro-hydel projects, traditional water mill, the study of wild edible plants, natural dye, and documentation of Traditional Knowledge System on its utilization. He also apprised of setting up a Biotechnology Resource Centre at Kimin.

Dutta, during the presentation, highlighted the use of space technology in mapping and monitoring of natural resources and the vital role played by Remote Sensing and GIS technology in planning and monitoring of different developmental projects/ schemes in the state. He also apprised of the various upcoming activities using space technology.

Vivek Kumar highlighted the activities of the science center and how it is different from general museums. He also explained about the upcoming digital Space Theater and Innovation Hub which will further be an added attraction to the center.

Ete in his address emphasized on the importance of Department of Science & Technology, and its collaboration with different Union Ministries/Departments, viz, Ministry of Science & Technology, Earth Science, Biotechnology, Department of Space and Ministry of Culture. He further raised the issues of lack of fund, manpower, and infrastructure and urged Parliamentary Secretary to take up the matter to the higher level. 

Calling upon the scientists to come up with new innovative projects, programs for development of science technology in the state, thereby ensuring percolation of the benefits up to the grassroot level, Mangha also emphasized on team work for achieving the very objectives of the council. 

Tapak Taku, appreciating the gradual achievements and activities of S&T, SRSAC and Science Centre division of the department, assured support from the State government in smooth functioning of the department and in the implementation of projects and schemes. He also urged the media houses to publicize the matter so that activities of Department of Science & Technology should come to the knowledge of the Government and public.  

Stressing on the importance of science and technology for the development of the state, he urged the professionals, employees to work hard with team spirit and transparency towards disseminating the benefits of science and technology among all sections of society.
