PASIGHAT, May 21:Minister Textiles and Handicrafts, Industries and Power, Tamiyo Taga, today inaugurated the Centre of Excellence Building for promoting the Sericulture sector at Sille. The training institute constructed under Centrally Sponsored Scheme - NERTPS, with hostel facility will provide capacity building and technology transfer on Sericulture with the aim for economic empowerment of rural women. At present 600 women beneficiaries have been covered under the NERTPs in East Siang.
Addressing the women beneficiaries, who attended in large numbers, Taga, while terming Sericulture as a viable economic activity , called upon them to take up and sustain their efforts with dedication for their economic empowerment, as the Centre has launched the scheme with the aim of women empowerment.
He underlined that Sericulture sector can boost the economic status of farmers and in view of the major role of Sericulture sector, he said that there is a need to set up a separate Directorate of Sericulture for promotion of the sector in a focused way.
He asked the District Administration for including the proposal for approach road under SIDF and also asked authorities to put up requirements for security walll.
A two-point memorandum was also submitted by theParliamentary Secretary (Agri.& Fisheries) and local MLA, Er. Tatung Jamoh.
At present Integrated Mulberry Sericulture Development in cluster approach is in implementation in three blocks viz. Sille,Pasighat and Mebo.
