ITANAGAR, Aug 21:Governor BD Mishra (retd) today asked the students community to give top priority to their academic interest. He also asked them to maintain peace and tranquility on the campus so that atmosphere of fear and uncertainty can be vanquished.
He was interacting on the theme, ‘The Role of Students in Ensuring Discipline and Proper Academic Atmosphere in Higher & Technical Educational Institutions’ with the students and  faculty of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), National Institute of Technology (NIT) and North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) at Raj Bhavan here today.
“Student bodies must support socio-academic advancement, promote talent, dignity and positivity of individual students in the campus,” the Governor said.
He further suggested that members of student bodies must always be the underwriters of the study as the first priority. “They must be disciplined, committed to their social responsibility and have empathy and respect for other student bodies, constitution, rules, laws, acts and good social order and above all be self disciplined."

The Governor exhorted them to dedicate time to ‘Collective College Work’ and develop tolerance for diverse ideas and opinions but the difference between ‘difference of opinion’ and ‘opinion assailing the unity and integrity of the Nation’ must be understood.
Earlier, the Governor along with the students observed a minute’s silence as mark of respect to the people who lost their lives in the floods in Kerala and homage to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
