ITANAGAR, Sep 13: Scores of students and alumni of Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) Itanagar staged dharna demanding immediate revocation of suspension order against Associate Professor (Chemistry) Pramanik Narendra.
Holding placards and banners, students gathered at the college campus and shouted slogans seeking revocation of the suspension order.
By suspending the Associate Professor, Commissioner Education has doubted the integrity of the faculty members of the DNGC College, said Lokam Nungna an alumnus.
Associate Professor Pramanik Narendra was suspended for discharging his duty during the APSSB examination as a Center Superintendent on 18th July last.He caught a student while using mobile inside the examination hall but instead of rewarding him, Commissioner has suspended him, he added.
The students further sought clarification from APSSB and Commissioner Education regarding the grounds for suspension.
The unacceptable decision will not only affect the faculty members but it will affect the whole students’ community of the college, they added.
"The Board has found that Associate Professor, Pramanik Narendra engaged private teachers as invigilators without permission of the Board or knowledge of the Deputy Commissioner which is negligence of SOP of APSSB," said Secretary-APSSB, Santosh Kumar Rai. However, he didn’t comment on the allegations of faulty jammer and lapses during frisking.
While refuting all the allegations, Associate Professor Pramanik Narendra said that he has no authority to appoint Invigilators as a Center Superintendent.
"It was the Deputy Commissioner Capital who appointed the Invigilators. Moreover, DC himself has issued clean chit on the allegation but surprisingly APSSB has recommended for my suspension through Education Commissioner," he said.
He further questioned the malfunctioning of the jammer installed by APSSB and a candidate entering the exam hall with a mobile phone despite frisking.
"Despite such lapses, I caught the candidate with a mobile phone in the examination hall, and instead of rewarding they have suspended me," said the Associate Professor.
