ITANAGAR, Dec 3: The All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) election for the 2024-2027 term turned into chaos when Magistrate and Police were disrupted from seizing election materials at Siddhartha Hall, resulting in a fire that destroyed critical election items.
The operation was carried out on the directives of the Deputy Commissioner of Itanagar Capital Complex (Order No. DC/ICC-JUD-03/24 and its addendum dated December 2, 2024), was led by Duty Magistrate  Khoda Bath (EAC, Naharlagun) with the support of a police team.
In its press statement, SP ICR stated that, the team led by Duty Magistrate Khoda Bath (EAC, Naharlagun)  including SDPO Itanagar Kengo Dirchi, Inspector Takhe Tasso, and other law enforcement personnel, arrived at the hall at 10:00 AM to enforce the order. ANSU Election Commission member Techi Sanjay was contacted to facilitate the process. Initially reluctant but eventually agreed to cooperate, causing a brief delay as the officials awaited his arrival.
Before the operation could begin, ANSU President  Lezen Gyadi, General Secretary Mai Aram Camdir, and a group of supporters arrived at the site, creating a tense standoff. Tempers flared as arguments ensued, and the operation was disrupted. Amidst the commotion, a faction of the crowd stormed the hall and allegedly set fire to three ballot boxes containing election materials.
The SDPO identified four individuals Takam Tame,  Anil Sangdo,  Ngurang Pepu, and  Charu Majo as key suspects involved in the arson. A written complaint by the Duty Magistrate led to the immediate registration of an FIR. Legal proceedings have commenced, with the suspects being summoned to cooperate with ongoing investigations.
SP further clarified rumours that former President Nabam Dodum has not been detained. Additionally, ballot boxes related to the Vice President election remain in police custody, secured under court orders to ensure transparency and adherence to legal protocols.
