Naharlagun, Oct 22 : Human Rights of Arunachal (HRA), under the leadership of its Chairman, Dr. Kipa Kaha, and Secretary General, Jesy Debia, has expressed solidarity with the Adi Bane Kebang (U) Youth Wing and its collaborating organisations, including SAYA, SIFF, Adi Galo Welfare Society and SIFF Youth Wings, in connection with the 12-hour bandh call on October 23 in East Siang, Siang and Upper Siang districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
The bandh has been called to demand the immediate release of persons arrested under the APUAPA in connection with protests against the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP). HRA has appealed to the State Government to
review the arrests in accordance with the law, reconsider the suspension of Gaon Burahs and government employees, and address the concerns of affected communities regarding the proposed mega-dam project.
HRA acknowledged the concerns of the local Adi communities regarding the protection of their ancestral land, environment, cultural heritage and the interests of future generations. The organisation urged the State Government to convene a round-table discussion involving affected communities, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to resolve the issues through peaceful dialogue and democratic means.
HRA appealed to the public to maintain peace, cooperate responsibly and ensure that emergency services and other essential movements are not obstructed.
HRA further reiterated that public concerns must be addressed through constructive dialogue, respect for constitutional rights and due process of law. A peaceful and democratic resolution is essential to safeguarding public interests, protecting the rights of affected communities and maintaining harmony across the state, it said.
