In his keynote address Dr. Lowang urged the ROB staff to use the pandemic situation to bring behavioural changes among common people regarding hygiene and cleanliness and create awareness on comorbidities among those above 30 years during their house-to-house campaign. Regarding Covid vaccination he said around 32,000 health workers in the state followed by frontline workers and common people above 50 years of age will be vaccinated by Covishield vaccine and the second dose will be administered after a gap of 28 days.

While informing that it may take 2-4 weeks for the antibodies to develop, Dr. Lowang urged the recipients to continue with Covid safety behaviour like using masks, hand sanitizers and keeping 2 feet social distancing. He also advised the field staff to convey to the common people that the vaccine may cause some usual side effects like mild fever, nausea, body ache and in case of high fever they should contact nearby health centres or use the Corona helpline. While answering a query on the type of masks to be used he said N95 masks can be used for a week and even those made of normal clothes which can be reused after washing can be used.
Referring to the initiatives taken by the Health Department to improve cleanliness in hospitals Dr. Lowang said that sanitary workers and health workers have been reoriented through online training on proper disposal of biomedical waste and necessary infrastructure like incinerators have been installed in all hospitals across the state.
He also advised the pregnant and feeding mothers to avoid Covid vaccination since no safety-related data is not available till now.
