ITANAGAR, May 26,Strongly condemning the recent extortion notice served by banned militant outfit ULFA to one of its senior clan members and former MLA, Bida Taku along with his election agent, the Baate Youth Welfare Society (BYWS) today appealed to the State government to provide security to Taku and his family.

The society is also demanding the government to initiate a high level SIT inquiry into the case to unearth the whole gamut behind the extortion notice.

Addressing a press conference this afternoon at press club, General Secretary, BYWS, Khyoda Vijay has strongly appealed to the government to take serious note of life threat being given by ULFA to the family members.

“In the notice, Taku and his family has been intimated and warned of dire consequences, if he fails to pay the amount, or try to report the matter to police /security agencies,” Vijay informed while claiming that the incident might be a political conspiracy to pressurize and instill fear in the former MLA contestant.

Also disappointed over the slow pace of investigation in the case by Mahadevpur police station, Namsai , Vijay informed that they have submitted several representation to Chief Secretary and concern police station  to expedite the process to nab the culprit immediately.

“However much to our dismay, despite repeated pleas from clan members and family members, no breakthrough was made by the police till date,” lamented Vijay adding that it is very unfortunate that ‘our peaceful state is being breached by the underground elements which are growing under the guidance of some powerful individuals.’

"Former MLA of Lekang Constituency and BYWS elder Bida Taku have done nothing to harm society and is being respected by many in Lekang Constituency. During his tenure as Minister of state for RWD, Education and Sports and Youth Affairs from 1996 to 1999 under Gegong Apang and Mukut Mithi ministries, he had served for the betterment of society and people of Arunachal Pradesh,” Vijay further added.

The society further cautioned the state government that if any untoward incident happens to Taku or his family members in near future, the State government would be held responsible for it.
