ITANAGAR, Jan 10: The 7th Arunachal Film Festival cum 2nd State Film Awards 2020 ceremony witnessed the presence of the entire Arunachal film artists coming under the same roof on January 9 last at Amphitheatre, Dorjee Khandu Convention Hall, Itanagar.
2020 release, the movie ‘Capital’ won the maximum number of titles viz best film, best editor (Nabam Katung), best cinematography (Nabam Katung), best male actor in a lead role (Tumken Sora), best actor in a negative role (Pei Nilu Gumtu), best actor in a comic role (Basonie Wesi), best male actor in a supporting role (Ligang Sulu), and best male playback singer (Balo Demo).
Based on the Bugun tribals of West Kameng district, the movie ‘Land of Bugun Liocichla’ took home 3 titles that included best director (D K Thungon), best female actor in a lead role (Sheela Dema Marphew), and best music (S D Wangja).
While ‘Hula Numpa’ received two titles viz best female actor in a supporting role (Millo Mamung) and best female playback singer (Habung Mona), the category of best documentary was won by ‘Rangwan’, best short film open was given to ‘Stranded’, best short film theme by ‘All The Best’.
Attended by renowned artists of yesteryears such as Hage D. Appa and Desom Beyong of Frontier Students, a cinematic masterpiece of late Taro Chatung and experts from Bollywood and others namely Amar Kaushik, director, GirjaShankar Vohra, sound expert, Nyago Ete, lights expert, and Shipra Acharya, make-up expert, etc, the award night was a creative magnificence.
Expressing happiness over the success of the festival, Hali Welly, organizing chairman of the event said, “I am really satisfied with each and every member associated with the event as it was a success even during this pandemic time.” “We believe that the door for due recognition to the artists of the state has been opened by us by holding such an event,” Welly opined while sharing the good news of best director 2020 winner, D K Thungon’s selection in freeway film entry in the 23rd UK Asian Film Federation.

He further emphasized that the Arunachal Film Policy 2020 announced by the Chief Minister Pema Khandu if implemented properly would be beneficial for the upliftment of the state’s filmmakers and artists.
The organizing secretary of the event, Shambo Flago stated that the whole program was made online due to the severity of the pandemic in earlier times. The 2nd State Film Award ceremony was made offline as the situation is better now and to initiate an interactive session with all the members of the state film fraternity.
He opined that Film Federation of Arunachal is a platform to unite and give reorganization to the artists of the state.
He also thanked the state government and department of information & public relations for helping the event to be a success.
Meanwhile, the festival director, Lobsang Chombey called the 7th Arunachal Film Festival to be a learning opportunity provided by the festival team to the young filmmakers and artists. The films and documentaries that were shown online on the AFF social networking sites have received an excellent response internationally and were included so that youngsters could learn, he added.
The two day Arunachal Film Festival was scheduled for December 27 to 28 last, but was extended till 30 December 2020 later.
From showing films and documentaries online, the festival was also curated with the master classes on sound, lights, makeup, and panel discussion on the business of making movies.
