ITANAGAR, Jun 23: The 68th death anniversary of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the predecessor organization of the BJP was observed by the party karyakartas across the state.
The state-level programme was organized here at Niti Vihar which was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein. Dr. Mookerjee continues to inspire the many walks of Indian life and always fought and stood for a united India and opposed the “Do Pradhan, Do Vidhan” approach of Jawaharlal Nehru on Jammu and Kashmir from the very beginning for which he resigned from his ministry and formed a new political party, the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS), the present-day BJP, Mein recalled. State General Secretary Nalong Mize said that it was only due to the penetrating political vision of Dr. Mookerjee the state of West Bengal and the strategically important ‘Chicken Neck’ corridor near Siliguri that connects the  Northeast states with the rest of India became a part of the Indian Union.
Garlands and floral tributes were paid to the portraits of Dr. Mookerjee in the district-level events along with activities like cleanliness drives and tree plantations.
