Itanagar, Oct 14: In solidarity with the nationwide protests by ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activists) and AF (ASHA Facilitators) workers, hundreds of ASHA workers gathered at the Tennis Court in Itanagar today, supported by the Arunachal Mazdoor Sangh,Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union to press their demands for improved working conditions and benefits.
Speaking to the media, a member informed that, the they have been voicing their concerns, urging the government to address their charter of demands, which includes a significant increase in their honorarium and comprehensive insurance coverage. They called for a `15 lakh insurance policy to cover any accidents or untoward incidents during their work, which often involves considerable risks in remote areas.
Another key demand is the introduction of a retirement pension of `10,000 per month, which they claim is essential for their long-term financial security. Many workers are also seeking the opportunity for further professional development by becoming eligible for Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), a move that would enhance their career prospects and improve healthcare services.
Additionally, the protesters demanded better mobility and housing support, asking the government to provide e-scooters to help them reach rural areas and ensure affordable housing facilities. They also highlighted the need to be included under the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) for financial stability and access to modern equipment like 5G-supported tools to improve the efficiency of their work.
