ITANAGAR, Nov 21: All Arunachal Sarva Shiksa Abhiyan Teachers Association (AASSATA) today called off their ongoing pen down strike after Parliamentary Secretary Home & Education, Pani Taram assured to fulfill their demands on behalf of the state government.
Interacting with executive members of the association, Taram termed the demands of SSA teachers as genuine and observed that teachers in the state are paid less than other states.
‘Moreover there are some genuine teachers who are working tirelessly to impart quality education in remote areas. So seeing their dedication, the government has decided to consider their demand for enhancement of salary in the next Cabinet meeting,’ Taram said.
Responding to the other demand for job regularization, the Parliamentary Secretary informed that at least 700 teachers have been regularized till date and recently in August this year, 102 teachers were regularized. ‘State government is not depriving anyone. We will regularize others too but within the laid down norms and in batch wise,’ he added.
Further, appealing the teachers to resume their duty from Wednesday for the sake of students, Taram informed that Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Minister for Education Honchun Ngandam and Chief Secretary had held a meeting to resolve the grievances of the SSA teachers.
Meanwhile, expressing satisfaction over the government’s assurance, President AASSATA, Tarak Agung Tarh said ‘we are very much pleased with the assurance given by the state government, however if authority fails to comply with the assurance, we will resume the agitation.’
He further appealed the district units to resume their duty from Wednesday.
AASSATA was on a six-day pen down strike from Monday after the government failed to respond to their demands despite three-day peaceful dharna in all the respective DDSE offices from November 6 last.
