Indian Army conducts ‘Know Your Army’ outreach
GUWAHATI, Jan 11: State Assembly Speaker P.D. Sona who was on a tour to the Assam capital for the NERCPA Zone III conference on Monday managed to find out some time to visit a school in Pamohi near Guwahati which follows a unique model of imparting education to students.
Managed by Akshar Foundation, a non-profit organization, the school accepts plastic waste as school fees and imparts not just education but also vocational skills to its students. The novel education model has received recognition by the United Nations where the key aspect is that the curriculum is based on the skill level of students rather than their age. The Speaker interacted with the founding members of the school and its trustees. Co-founder Mazin Mukhtar while briefing about Akshar Foundation and its vision informed Sona that it pursues the objective of eradicating poverty through quality education. In addition to conventional schooling, the students learn how to earn a living, run a business and maintain the environment, he added. Lauding the yeoman services of the Foundation through unique teaching-learning concepts, he urged them to explore more innovative ideas to help out the needy children.
Later, the Speaker handed over the gifts brought for the school’s students. He was accompanied by DRC Guwahati and other officials.
