ITANAGAR, Jul 24: Seven weightlifters of the state are attending the month-long National Coaching Camp at Aurangabad which will commence from July 25. The group comprising of three girls and four boys have been selected on the basis of the performance of the Arunachalee weightlifters during the last Khelo India Games in Delhi where Arunachal won a lone Bronze medal which was brought by weightlifter Nabam Tat in the 94 kg category.
Posen Kongkang 58 kg , Boni Mangkhiya 58 kg, Liza Kamsha 63 kg (all girls) and Sankar Lapung 50 kg , Markio Tario 56 kg, Charu Pesi 56 kg and Nabam Tat 94 kg category are attending the camp.
If these young athletes give better performances during the course of coaching, they will be further selected for Khelo India Weightlifting Academy and the Government of India through Sports Authority of India will sponsor a sum of Rs.11.5 lakh to each player for five consecutive years which will relieve them of financial burden to a great extent, the Arunachal Weightlifting Association said in a release today.
