SEPPA, Jul 24: In view of the growing demand for a SIC investigation to unearth the alleged financial irregularities in the 81 km long Seppa-Chayang Tajo road project and its inordinate delay, a team of the Special Investigation Cell (SIC) led by its Superintendent of Police Dr. Hemant Tiwari today inspected the project and conducted a meeting with the locals at Chayang Tajo.
The team was accompanied by the All East Kameng District Students’ Union (AEKDSU), ANYA-East Kameng Unit, AAPSU members, All Bameng Khenewa Lada Students’ Union (ABKLSU), Chayang Tajo Area Development Committee (CADC), panchayat leaders and others.
Speaking to the media, the SIC SP informed that the team has inspected the project and obtained views of the locals. “As per the complaints raised by the locals, the project which started in 2008 was supposed to be completed within four years, but for various reasons the deadline was extended to 2017,” the SP said while informing that the chief demand now is a swift, free and fair investigation. “The SIC is assuring that we will make a free and fair investigation and the result will be shared soon,” Tiwari asserted.
“We thank the state government for engaging a dedicated SIC team to unearth the mismanagement in the Chayang Tajo road project and transferring the engineers,” AEKDSU President Chakang Yangda said. We also stick to our demand for arresting the officers involved in corruption and recovery of funds from them that have been siphoned off, he added. Chairman, CADC Taje Keyang while seeking arrest of the involved officials said that findings of the SIC investigation should be made public by August next, adding that if there is no outcome, CBI should be engaged.
As per reports, at least Rupees 172 crore was sanctioned for the road project. Although the works kicked off in 2008, till date the project has remained incomplete and only Rs 19 crore is now left with the department.
