Exhorts students, army personnel to play proactive role in fightback

 

ITANAGAR, Apr 16: Governor Brig. (Dr) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) attended the Governors’ videoconference on the prevailing COVID-19 situation and vaccination with Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi here from the Raj Bhavan on April 14.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted the videoconference wherein Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Rajesh Bhushan gave a presentation on the current COVID-19 situation of the country followed by exchange of feedback from the states/UTs. The Vice President asked the Governors to collaborate actively with the Chief Ministers in the fight against the pandemic, adding that they should provide guidance to the state governments in crafting more effective combat strategies. While assuring that the Central government is committed to ensure adequate availability of COVID vaccines to all states/UTs, the Prime Minister emphasized that the Governors must spread awareness about AYUSH-related remedies and spread the messages about vaccination and treatment.
The Governors of the most-affected states namely Bhagat Singh Koshyari of Maharashtra, Acharya Devvrat of Gujarat, V.P. Singh Badnore of Punjab, Anandiben Patel of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, Anusuiya Uikey of Chhattisgarh, Vajubhai Vala of Karnataka and Banwarilal Purohit of Tamil Nadu briefed about their respective COVID situation.
In pursuance of the Prime Minister’s suggestions during his April 8 virtual meet with the Chief Ministers, Mishra had conducted a series of meetings and videoconferences with people from all walks of life, including government officials, political parties, CBOs, religious leaders, prominent personalities and sportspersons wherein he shared his concern about the rise of positive cases in the state. Besides inviting suggestions from them, the Governor advised them to follow and propagate the urgent need to stick to all COVID SOPs in their respective areas.
Continuing his endeavour in reaching out to the people, the Governor will be interacting with the elected representatives, members of urban bodies and PRIs on April 17 through a virtual meeting to discuss the ways and means to contain the pandemic in the state.  Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein will also attend the virtual interaction.  
Meanwhile, the Governor and the state’s First Lady Neelam Misra took their first doses of the vaccine on April 15.
For the safety of ourselves and our loved ones, every person must take the dual doses, the Governor said while conveying gratitude to the state’s doctors, nurses and health workers for taking ahead the vital task. He also cautioned that even after vaccination, maintenance of COVID SOPs i.e. wearing facemask, hand washing and maintaining social distancing is essential.
The Governor also discussed the measures to contain the spread of COVID in the state with Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha Tapir Gao who called on him at the Raj Bhavan on Thursday.
The Governor requested Gao to assist the state government in procuring adequate stock of vaccines so that maximum number of eligible people can be vaccinated and help in creating awareness regarding the pandemic. He further suggested the MP to spread Covid awareness in his constituency.  
The Governor has exhorted all the Indian Army personnel stationed in the state to generate COVID awareness among people residing near their posts.
The appeal came on Thursday during a citation award ceremony at the Raj Bhavan in which he presented his Citation to Commanding Officer Colonel Ajit Singh and all Ranks of the 7th Battalion of 8 Gorkha Rifles (7/8 GR) for their professional competence and élan they displayed during their operational role in West Kameng district. MP Tapir Gao was present on the occasion. 
The Battalion has been the ‘Champion Battalion’ in 5 Mountain Division for 2019-20 and has established a good civil-military relationship in West Kameng besides carrying out various social responsibility works. He asked them to motivate the eligible people to take vaccination at the earliest.
While interacting with the students and members of the faculty of Rajiv Gandhi University and NCC cadets of 1st Arunachal Pradesh National Cadet Corps (NCC) Battalion in a virtual meeting from the Raj Bhavan on Friday, the Governor urged them to observe all Covid safety measures.
To defeat the pandemic, a sustainable COVID management mechanism must be in place involving people’s participation to take the fight to the level of a mass movement, he said, adding that the students and faculty of institutions of higher studies have a big role to play and their involvement is paramount. The Governor suggested that RGU fraternity must create awareness and assist in implementation of the five-fold strategy of Testing, Tracing, Treatment, Covid-appropriate behaviour and Vaccination with utmost commitment. Special drives for infusing Covid appropriate behaviour with emphasis on 100% mask usage, personal hygiene and sanitation at the varsity campus, work and public places is the need of the hour, he reiterated. “Involve yourselves as community volunteers in active case search and management of containment zones and motivate people to get vaccinated,” he appealed to the participants. The Governor also emphasized no striving for zero wastage of vaccines during vaccination sessions and invited suggestions from the participants for follow-up actions.
RGU VC Professor Saket Kushwaha, Pro VC Professor Amitava Mitra and Commanding Officer 1st Arunachal Pradesh NCC Battalion Col. Kushal Kar Deolali were among others who participated in the virtual interaction.
