Indian Army conducts ‘Know Your Army’ outreach
KHONSA, May 10: With the objective of discouraging the local shopkeepers from doling out extortion money to the underground militant groups and as a confidence building exercise, 6th Assam Rifles Bn and Tirap Police on Sunday jointly organized a security meet with them and Bazar Committee members here in the headquarters.
The shopkeepers were appealed not to pay any kind of extortion money/tax/collection to anyone and report about any threat, demand letter or phone calls to the District Police and Assam Rifles immediately. It was agreed that posters and flexes displaying ‘No Insurgency/No Extortion’ will be placed in the market area by the Bazar Committee. Shopkeepers were appealed to have faith in law enforcing authorities and report all such wrong doings without fail. It was further decided that CCTV cameras will be installed in shops and important places and the already installed CCTVs will be made functional by the administration. The shopkeepers were specifically instructed to share the mobile numbers of OGWs/UGs immediately after receipt of extortion/threat calls. A collective pledge on ‘Say No to Extortion’ was also taken by the 52 shopkeepers and Bazar Committee members who attended the security meet.
