ITANAGAR, Dec 21: The State Election Commission (SEC), Arunachal Pradesh, on Saturday announced the successful and peaceful completion of vote counting for the Local Body Elections–2025, covering municipal bodies, zilla parishads and gram panchayats across the state.
According to the official press release issued by the SEC, counting of votes was completed on December 20, without any law and order issues. The election process encompassed the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC), Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) and 245 Zilla Parishads across Arunachal Pradesh.
The polling for the local body elections was held on December 15, following the issuance of the election notification on November 17, 2025. A significant number of seats were declared unopposed, reflecting limited contestation in several areas.
In the Itanagar Municipal Corporation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged dominant by winning 14 wards, including four uncontested seats. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) secured three wards, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) won two, while one ward went to an Independent candidate.
In the Pasighat Municipal Council, the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) performed strongly, winning five wards, while the BJP secured two wards and one ward went to an Independent candidate.
Out of 245 Zilla Parishad Constituencies, the BJP registered a sweeping victory by winning 170 seats, including 59 uncontested seats. The People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) won 28 seats, Indian National Congress (INC) secured seven seats, National People’s Party (NPP) won five seats (including one uncontested), NCP won 11 seats and the rest were Independent and other candidates.
In the Gram Panchayat elections, results were declared for 8,208 constituencies. The BJP won 6,085 seats, including 5,211 uncontested seats, reaffirming its strong grassroots presence.
The PPA secured 648 seats, NCP won 396 seats, INC won 216 seats, NPP secured 160 seats, LJP won 27 seats, and AAP opened its account with one seat.
Additionally, Independent candidates won 627 seats, including 280 uncontested.
The SEC also informed that results for 47 Gram Panchayat seats were decided through a draw of lots due to tied votes, while 45 seats remain vacant owing to reasons such as no nominations, rejection of candidature, or countermanding of elections.
The State Election Commission expressed appreciation for the cooperation extended by political parties, candidates, election officials, security forces and all stakeholders. It also thanked the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and various departments, including Forest, Tax & Excise, for logistical and administrative support that ensured timely completion of the elections.
