ITANAGAR, Jun 30: Despite a comprehensive search operation today by the NDRF rescue team, the whereabouts of the 3 missing persons who were drowned in Siyom river on Tuesday following a bridge collapse at Sangam Point in Siang district could not be traced.
After getting informed by DC Siang about the mishap that 3 persons (male) along with the dumper they were travelling in had fallen on Siyom river due to collapse of the bridge, a 12 NDRF team consisting of 31 personnel under command of Assistant Commandant Sanjay Prasad Sharma left for the incident site at 1125 hrs on June 29 with all necessary equipment like 4 OBMs and boats, 2 deep diving sets, 1 satellite phone, CSSR equipment and Covid-19 PPEs. After reaching the site today with help boats, ropes and magnets the team searched approx. 400 mtrs downstream from the incident site and all suspected locations. Eventually, after discussion with DDMO Siang the search operation was closed at 1600 hrs and it was decided that no further searches were required. The team had to take the hard decision keeping in mind the depth of the river at the incident site which is approx 20 mtrs and the presence of a strong current, the combined effect of which in all probability has completely washed away the dumper and the 3 riders.
