Itanagar, Oct 10: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.), participated in the ‘Right to Information Week Celebration 2025’ at Dorjee Khandu Auditorium, State Legislative Assembly Complex, Itanagar, on Friday. The Governor, along with the State Law Minister, released the Annual Report of the Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission and gave away the prizes for the essay writing competition, conducted by APIC in collaboration with the Political Department of Dera Natung Govt. College, Itanagar. Miss Golom Alisha, Ms Habu Yanga, and Ms Yani Maling received the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes of the competition.
In his address, the Governor emphasized that the Right to Information Act is a law and a living expression of democracy. It bridges the gap between citizens and the State, turning aspirations into action.
Parnaik called on everyone to renew their commitment to transparency, accountability, and citizen empowerment as the Nation strives towards the vision of Viksit Bharat. He said that with awareness, participation, and integrity, we can build a nation where progress is inclusive, governance is open, and every citizen is a proud partner in India’s journey toward 2047.
Commending the Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission for organizing a meaningful programme, the Governor said such initiatives celebrate people’s empowerment and public participation in governance. They help deepen awareness, strengthen accountability, and nurture the spirit of good governance in the State. He reiterated that an informed citizenry makes governments stronger and more responsive. The RTI Act, he noted, is one of India’s most transformative laws, mandating transparency at every level of administration.
Stating that RTI as a pillar of participatory democracy, the Governor said it aligns closely with the vision of a developed, self-reliant, and empowered India, Viksit Bharat. Built on the principles of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas, RTI fosters trust, inclusion, and progress, he said.
The Governor suggested the adoption of innovative ways to strengthen RTI, combining technology, awareness, and collaboration. He said that local communities must be encouraged to actively monitor development, while continuous capacity building of public officials is essential. Regular training, timely disclosures, and efficient handling of applications will ensure RTI remains a living instrument of transparent and responsible governance, where citizens and authorities work together with mutual respect and purpose, he emphasised.
The State Minister of Law, Legislative & Justice, Social Justice Empowerment & Tribal Affairs, Sports & Youth Affairs, Kento Jini, State Chief Information Commissioner, Major General Jarken Gamlin, AVSM, SM, VSM (Retd), Principal Secretary Home, Shri Kaling Tayeng, and State Information Commissioner, Vijay Taram shared their views on the occasion.
Large numbers of participants, including PIOs, government officials, newly appointed APCS probationers, and representatives from RTI activities, attended the programmes, among others.
