 NEW DELHI, Jun 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today termed the roll-out of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) from July 1 as "historic". Addressing a gathering at the APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University in Lucknow

this evening, Mr. Modi said that the world will witness how political parties of various ideological hues came together to usher in this major reform.

Mr. Modi said that he was grateful to all those who had contributed towards the formation of a consensus over the tax reform. Prime Minister also called upon the youths engaged in technical education to make the country self dependent in Medical and Defense sectors. Mentioning his discourses with Scientists at CDRI he termed them as saints dedicated for the happiness of the mankind.

He said country is dependent on Forgien countries for its requirements in defence sector and said competent and innovative youths of the country may bring a change and make the country self dependent. The Prime Minister also remembered Dr. Kalam on this occassion saying when we talk about science, technology and innovation, it is natural to think about him.

The Prime Minister inaugurated new campus and newly constructed building of Dr APJ Kalam Technical University on first day of his two days visit to the Uttar Pradesh capital. During the function Mr. Modi handed over allotment letters of houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna to 10 women beneficiaries and also dedicate to the nation of 400 KV transmission line Between Lucknow and Kanpur.

Earlier the Prime Minister inaugurated newly developed campus of prestigious Central Drug Research institute CDRI at Lucknow also spend time in the laboratories of the institute. Mr. Modi
was accorded warm welcome at Amausi airport Lucknow on his arrival by the Governor Ram Naik and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath this afternoon.
