AALO, Dec 10: The Galo Christian Forum (GCF) has raised serious concern at the recent incident in West Siang, terming it a rising wave of religious intolerance in Aalo and various parts of West Siang district.
Addressing the media during a press conference, President GCF James Boje highlighted the recent incident on December 6 at Bili near Kombo village, where a pre-Christmas celebration was reportedly disrupted by a group of miscreants. The forum also blamed widespread misinformation regarding the Arunachal Freedom of Religion Act (AFRA), 1978, for escalating tensions. It said that recent claims by the IFCSAP president and certain indigenous faith representatives—suggesting that AFRA has been implemented—were “misleading” and have created unnecessary confusion and friction among the Galo community.
Calling the incident a clear violation of constitutional rights and the secular fabric of the state, the GCF urged the Arunachal Pradesh government to take urgent action. It demanded the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) or a magisterial inquiry to probe the December 6 obstruction and similar incidents.
Reiterating its commitment to communal harmony, the GCF appealed to the Galo community to uphold peace, unity, and brotherhood, stressing that only collective harmony can ensure the district’s long-term progress and social stability.
