KHONSA, Nov 25: Union Minister of state for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju graced the 49th Nocte Chalo Loku today at Khonsa amidst mammoth gathering of people from various villages.
The festival was attended by Adviser to CM cum Chief Patron of the festival,Wanglin Lowangdong, MLAs Wanglam Sawin, Tirong Aboh, DC PN Thungon, SP Jitendra Kumar Meena among others.
Calling the Noctes embodiment of courage and peace, Rijiju said that peace is a prerequisite for all round development of any district or state but unfortunately Tirap-Changlang and Longding are facing untold problems due to insurgency infested in the region.
Assuring his best to address the problem being faced the people of TCL on top priority, the MoS expressed concern over youths being misguided by anti social elements and appealed them to return to the mainstream.
‘The BJP led government shall provide all possible assistance to rehabilitate them so that these youths can come back to the mainstream,’ Rijiju said.
In reply to the public memorandum, Rijiju made it loud and clear that no stone will be left unturned for development of TLC and made many announcements.
He assured to pursue at all levels to include Tirap & Longding Districts into the tourist circuit, assured to pursue for allocation of funds for construction of Khonsa-Bogapani-Joypur roads “KBJ Roads”. Also the long pending Rs.156 crore for creation of Police Stations and recruitment of police posts has been revised to 212 crore, among others.
Guest of honour cum MLA-58 Kanubari Gabriel Denwang Wangsu said that there shouldn’t be any conflict between religion and culture and underscored that the young generation should be guided well and made aware of indigenous culture and heritage.
Earlier Chief Patron Wanglin Lowangdong highlighted at length about the importance and mythology of Chalo Loku celebration which is celebrated every year by the Noctes after paddy harvesting.
An audio album “A Tribute to Martyr Hangpan Dada” sponsored by Gangtong Bangyang and sung by Dr. Vineeta and Er. Gangtong was formally released by Rijiju in presence of the martyr’s widow Chasen Dada.
The colorful traditional dances performed by 5 villages of Noctes, mega dance performed by women of Borduria and Tham-thoot (Traditional Log drum beating) performed by Thinsa village added colour and fervor to the celebration.
