RONO HILLS, Mar 4: A round table discussion for preparing a road map to implement the MoU inked between Rajiv Gandhi University and Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports was held today here at the campus.
Inaugurating the discussion, RGU VC Professor Saket Kushwaha pointed out economic inequalities as the prime reason for unrest among youths and underscored the need for their proper training as a solution. Around thirty faculty members of the university who participated in the discussion proposed several measures and suggestions for collaboration between the two institutions under the broad categories of research, training and extension which is well within the framework of the MoU signed in February this year. The proposals ranged from creating awareness on substance abuse to short-term training in career counselling and training in politics to inculcation of values, all of which are awaiting a final shape from the core committee by the end of this month. 
Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Amitava Mitra spoke about the demographic dividend and Registrar Dr N T Rikam elaborated on the details of the collaboration. Joint Registrar Dr. David Pertin emphasized on the need for inculcation of cultural values among the youths in the Northeast and called upon the university fraternity to design research and project proposals on the same.  Coordinator, RGNIYD, NER Centre Dr. Kottu Sekhar gave a PowerPoint Presentation on RGNIYD and shared the objectives and scope of the collaboration.
Among others the Head of the Department of Geography Professor Tomo Riba, Head, Department of Anthropology Professor SK Chaudhuri, Head, Department of Education Professor Kesang Degi, Head, Department of English Dr. KC Mishra  and others exchanged their ideas for making the MoU successful.  RGU PR
