RONO HILLS, Jun 14: Rajiv Gandhi University’s Department of Botany today organized a national webinar on Black fungus disease (Mucormycosis) which saw a participation of around 100 scientists, academicians, ecologists, research scholars and students from across the country.
RGU VC Professor Saket Kushwaha congratulated the organizers for selecting Mucormycosis as the webinar’s topic, the disease which has been a cause of added concern amid Covid 2.0. Assistant Professor, TRIHMS Dr Jego Ori while deliberating on mucormycosis highlighted its symptoms, preventive measures and treatment strategies. Professor Rupam Kapoor from University of Delhi explained in detail why mucormycosis spurted during Covid treatment and detailed the factors that led to the incidence of mucormycosis and the mechanism by which the fungus could invade the body.
Both the speakers were of the opinion that immunity level must be increased to prevent the disease with constant observation of signs and symptoms. Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences Professor Sumpam Tangjang Singh spoke on the severity of the disease and the panic it has caused among people.
Pro VC Professor Amitava Mitra and Registrar Dr NT Rikam spoke on the occasion. There was also a question-answer session between the speakers and participants on the webinar’s topic.
