RONO HILLS, Feb 1: Rajiv Gandhi University today inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Chennai which is an institute of national importance under the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports for collaborative researches in areas of mutual interest.
The main objective of the MoU is to establish a youth development centre through mutual coordination between RGU and RGNIYD and undertake research on various aspects related to empowerment of Northeast youths. It was signed by RGU Registrar Dr. Nabam Tadar Rikam and RGNIYD Registrar Dr. TRA Devakumar in presence of RGU Vice-Chancellor Professor Saket Kushwaha, Director, RGNIYD Professor Shibnath Deb, faculty members and officers from the two organizations both physically and through virtual modes. Professor Kushwaha while terming the MoU a welcome step towards achieving academic heights, emphasized on the importance of undertaking extension, outreach, documentation and sensitization programmes on various youth-related issues of the Northeast. RGU Pro VC Professor Amitava Mitra hoped the MoU will benefit both the organizations and the youths at large in the Northeast. The RGNIYD Director while addressing the programme on virtual mode said the MoU will give way to equitable access to higher education while maintaining professional and social responsibility in the right perspective.
Dr Rikam informed the MoU will work towards designing and developing certificate courses on Skill Training for the Northeast youths by organizing various short-term training programmes for the youth functionaries and other stakeholders such as NSS programme officers, NCC, NYKS etc. in due course. Speaking on financial aspects, RGU Finance Officer Professor Otem Padung maintained that both the parties have mutually agreed to finance the joint activities from internal and external sources available with them. Head In-charge, RGU’s Department of Social Work Dr. Kaushalendra Pratap Singh informed that its Centre for Youth Development and Leadership Studies (CYDLS) will play the role of a facilitator in implementing the programmes and activities of RGNIYD.
Joint Registrar (Academic & Conference) Dr. David Pertin informed the MoU will remain effective for the next five years.
