RONO HILLS, Jul 8: Rajiv Gandhi University has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Fragrance & Flavour Development Centre (FFDC), Ministry of MSME, Government of India, Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh during a day-long national webinar titled ‘Revitalizing the Potential of Aroma Industry in Arunachal Pradesh: Local to Global Perspectives’ on Thursday that was intended to showcase the biodiversity of the state and apprise the stakeholders about the market potential of the fragrance and flavor industry.
The MoU is aimed at strengthening the collaborative partnership for promoting research, training and resource mobilization to develop the fragrance and aroma sector in the Northeast. RGU Registrar I/c Professor Otem Padung was the signatory from the varsity’s behalf while S.V. Shukla represented the FFDC. Terming the MoU a landmark step in devising and improvising the aroma industry in the Northeast, VC Professor Saket Kushwaha said it would certainly open the gateway for exploring entrepreneurial opportunities in the field, leading to a socio-economic transformation in the entire region. It is pertinent to mention that the idea of setting a dedicated “Center for Fragrance and Aroma” in the university under a scheme or grant from an appropriate ministry or agency was coined by Professor Padung.

Professor Kushwaha said that the webinar will unfold the ways for exploring the opportunities in the aroma and fragrance industry in Arunachal Pradesh which is blessed with a variety of flora and fauna. Pro VC Professor Amitava Mitra highlighted the overall market size and potential demand of the aroma industry in the country and the state as well.  Eminent speakers namely Principal Director, FFDC Shakti Vinay Shukla, President, Sugandha Vyapar Sangh Dr. Rohit Seth, President, Fragrance & Flavour Association of India Rishabh Kothari and others participated in the webinar. The FFDC Principal Director elaborated on the various dimensions of the aroma industry and the linkages across other sectors. Assistant Director I/c, Br. MSM-DI, Itanagar Amit Bajpai pressed for efforts to create new startups, expand existing firms, capacity building and training to propel the region’s economy. Acknowledging Arunachal’s potential due to its bountiful natural resources and biodiversity, including medicinal plants, aroma entrepreneur Dr. Seth expressed his willingness to explore business opportunities in the state.
About a hundred delegates representing various domains reaped the benefits of the seminar.
