ITANAGAR, Mar 11: The first ever regional meet of the parents of Divyangjan(persons with disability) organized by Arunachal Pradesh Parents Association for Disabled (APPAD) successfully concluded today.

During the meeting the members expressed concern over the inadequate infrastructure and extreme shortage of special doctors in the Primary Health Centres for persons living with disability. The house observed that poor support and lack of proper infrastructure as primary reason leading to rise inDivyangjans (persons with disability) in the State and said that special attention is required to put the high growth of disability in reverse mode.

Addressing the gathering, Zonal Secretary of PARIVAAR, Akum Ezung has appreciated Chief Minister Pema Khandu for taking a bold step by increasing the Disability Pension to Rupees one thousand.

 He stressed on need to establish units of all the national level disability specific institutions in Arunachal Pradesh particularly in Itanagar, on emergency basis to address all kind of disability related issues in general and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) in particular.

The house further also reminded the state government about its 10-point memorandum submitted earlier to address all round requirement of the disability sector of the State.

Establishment of Special Schools for special children in all district headquarters, creation of special job opportunities, skill development for parents and relaxations to the parents/family members of the PWIDDs in the field of entrepreneurship, Supply & works contract and other affirmative economic support etc.
