LONGLIANG, Apr 27: Deputy Commissioner, Tirap, Taro Mize accompanied by officials today inspected the site for reconstruction of dwelling houses for the victims of the Longliang fire tragedy.
During the course of inspection the DC stated that there shouldn’t be any difficulty over site selection by the relief committee under chairmanship of EAC I/c. Lazu DK Thungdok and a certain distance between each house must be maintained to avoid further fire accidents. The decision of the relief committee will be final regarding selection of the site, he added and asked the vendor to start construction work within a week before the onset of monsoon. The DC also urged the RWD, PHE & WS and Electricity departments to keeping in touch with the construction agency and relief committee for early restoration of road, water and power supply connectivity and thanked the state government, CBOs, NGOs, individuals and all well-wishers for extending overwhelming support to the fire victims. It can be recalled that on March 18 last, a devastating fire engulfed 114 houses in Longliang village taking away two lives.
The representative of the construction agency informed the houses will be built on a no-loss-no-profit basis on humanitarian ground at a cost of Rs 2,10, 000 per unit. The EAC I/c informed that construction expenses will be met from the donations received. All villagers including the village chief, GB and panchayat members assured full support to the construction team.
EE (PHE&WS), Khonsa Er. Bamang Tasung, AE (RWD) Er. D. Basar and JE (Power) Er. Prasad accompanied the DC in the inspection visit. DIPRO
