ZIRO, Jul 8: The outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in many districts of the state early this year has affected large numbers of mithuns. Since its outbreak, Lower Subansiri has reported a total of 348 cases in mithuns and 121 cases in cattle; with 13 deaths (only calves) since June.
Department of AH & Veterinary Office, Ziro responded immediately to the situation and deployed Rapid Response team (RRTS) in the affected areas for early containment of the epidemic. Under the leadership of veterinary officers of respective circle, RRTs have been doing their best to contain the FMD epidemic within their jurisdictions.
Accordingly awareness cum treatment camps have been organized at Dem, Deed, Bilo and Pei villages.
Dr. Taba Heli, Deputy Director, AH & Veterinary as the resource person of the awareness programs dwelt at length about the treatment and management of FMD in livestock and advised the farmers to cooperate with the veterinary team whenever they come for treatment or vaccination.
He further advised the livestock owners to get their livestock vaccinated with FMD vaccines twice a year to control FMD out breaks.
Dr. Hano Tama, DAH & VO, Ziro also directed the farmers to report any FMD like symptoms in livestock to the nearest veterinary health centre or directly to DAH & VO, Ziro for prompt action.
All Veterinary Officers of the district also attended the awareness cum treatment camps.DIPRO
