Itanagar, Jun 5: The Itanagar Capital Region which has been experiencing incessant rains for over a week now, reported massive damages on Saturday.
The District Administration has initiated prompt action to clear the blockades caused due to rain-triggered landslides.
Denizens residing near vulnerable locations have been asked to shift to relief camps and safer locations. The identified relief camps are Government Higher Secondary School Arunodaya Itanagar, Government Higher Secondary School Model Village and Nyokum Hall Banderdewa. Nodal Officers for each relief camps are Moyir Kato CO Itanagar, Laxmi Dodum CO Naharlagun and Ritu Tawe CO Banderdewa.
In-charge DDMO Tem Kaya informed that there was a massive landslide near Ganga Jollang road and the same was cleared by engaging men and machineries. He has requested the commuters taking Jollang road to be careful particularly near the culvert bridge near Himalayan University at Pagatara. Due to landslide near Panchali Itanagar, residents staying nearby were asked to shift to the relief camps or safer locations, he informed, adding that one kacha house was completely damaged due massive landslide at Kola colony near Panchali and the residents were shifted to their relatives' house.
At Nirjuli, landslide occurred at Rayo village and the nearby dwellers were asked to shift to relief camps and safer locations.Giving the details of the damages in Lekhi , the DDMO informed tha two kutcha huts were completely washed away by flood water, one local house completely damaged due to landslide, two kutcha houses submerged in flood and one SPT building was washed away. Besides these, one kutcha dwelling house was also damaged in flood water and one SPT building and one local kutcha house of Lekhi Koto village were submerged in flood water, along with flooding of one residence and three fish ponds.
The incharge DDMO further informed that 5 people were expected at the relief camp at Naharlagun on Saturday and all arrangements have been made by DA in this regard.Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom has requested the denizens especially those staying at vulnerable locations to shift to relief camps and safer locations. Basic relief materials would be provided by the District Administration at the relief camps, he informed.
It can be recalled that the DC had earlier issued an order on May 12, 2021 directing the people residing in vulnerable areas to vacate such places.For any assistance, 1090 can be contacted from BSNL sim.
It is pertinent to mention that earth cutting has been banned in the Capital Complex up to August 2021 through an order issued by the then Additional District Magistrate dated April 9, 2021.
Additionally, landslide occurred in the approach road leading to DCH Chimpu which was immediately cleared by the UD department.
PWD Highway department also cleared the block points caused due to landslide at three locations on the road leading to cremation cum Burial Ground Chimpu. DIPRO
