ITANAGAR, Nov 17: President of People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) Kahfa Bengia has slammed the state government for its silence on the long pending Greenfield Airport Project.

Presiding over the PPA Executive meeting, Bengia claimed that GFA is one of the most important projects to carry the state forward in the field of Tourism which can be the most revenue fetching industry in the state. The government cannot just keep on blaming the 'high compensation factor' for the inordinate delay, added the PPA chief.

Further, reacting to recent announcement of the Union Defence Minister for an Airfield Project at Dirang in West Kameng District, Bengia said the announcement of new project without bothering to clear the pending Airfield Project closer to the capital of the state doesn't sound acceptable. ‘The blame must go to the Union Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju for keeping the people of the state in acute dilemma,’ he said.

While speaking on the Greater Nagaland issue Chairman (CWC) PPA Kamen Ringu stated  that  BJP led government in the state should be bold enough to safeguard the interest of the state without any compromise even if there is pressure from the Centre to do so. "The people of Nagaland have every right to protect and preserve the interest of the Nagas but Greater Nagaland should not mean aiming to wrest away certain parts of Arunachal Pradesh where some common tribes of Arunachal and Nagaland reside,” he said.

“While the state of Assam has been very vocal about safeguarding the territorial integrity of the state over the issue of Greater Nagaland, the government of Arunachal is yet to come out with a strong statement on this vexed issue,” he added.

Meanwhile, PPA also raised eyebrows on frequent defection of elected Panchayat leaders from one party to another, stating it has made a mockery of the party based Panchayati Raj elections. The People's Party of Arunachal would like to propose for a strong Anti-Defection Panchayati Raj laws in the state if there has to be successful Panchayati Raj Institution in the state,’ stated a release from the PPA office.
