TEZU, Mar 1: Following much public outcry, the Sub-Postal Officer of Sunpura, Lohit district has been placed under immediate suspension for alleged embezzlement of lakhs of rupees under the postal department.

Ranjana Singh, the then SPO of Chowkham and presently transferred to Sunpura is alleged of misusing lakhs of rupees supposed to be the hard earned money of poor farmers and  labourers of Chowkham circle in Namsai district by the Women Welfare Society (WWS) and PRI member of Chowkham.

This action comes after the intervention of the Chief Post Master General, Department of Post, Shillong North – East Circle following a letter written by the Women Welfare Society (WWS) and members of Panchayati Raj Institution of Chowkham in which they expressed disappointment over the biased investigation carried out by the competent authority based in Itanagar. In the letter, they also alleged that 26 cases were investigated whereas the deception case is expected to be far more.

Earlier, soon after this scribe unearthed this scam, K Kharshandi, Superintendent of Post (HQ) Director of Postal Service Itanagar was deputed to unearth the irregularities; however the investigation was termed biased by the stakeholders.

With this delayed action of the Chief Post Master General Shillong, the WWS and PRI members have expressed hope of getting justice and recovering their deposited money at the earliest.
