ITANAGAR, Jul 25:A massive landslide triggered by heavy rains overnight swept away a portion of the National Highway 415 near Sango Restaurant on Wednesday morning, which forced the district administration to issue an advisory to commuters to ply via alternative Papu Nallah-Jully route to reach Itanagar.
Following the incident, the highway department pressed men and machineries to restore the road. However, according to Nirjuli Highway Division Executive Engineer, Nani Tath it will take at least one or two days to restore the road completely.
At Nirjuli, normal traffic was affected due to water logging on the road and commuters had to face inconvenience while crossing the said stretch of road the whole day.
While rains crippled normal activities, it was the police of Nirjuli Police Station who had to bear the brunt of flood water; forcing them to work all day long under three feet water while others spent hours throwing water out of the building.
In addition to that, the flood water did not spare shoppers and vendors of Nirjuli main market area as all business activities remained crippled for hours by water invasion from a choked Nallah.
Meanwhile, EAC cum Executive Magistrate Itanagar, Hengo Basar who is overlooking all traffic management has appealed to the public to follow alternate traffic arrangements made by the district administration.
