ITANAGAR, Oct 25: The Arunachal Pradesh Police has intensified probe into the suspected suicide of 19-year-old Gomchu Yekar, launching a nationwide hunt for senior IAS officer Talo Potom, one of the key accused in the case.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted by the Superintendent of Police, Naharlagun, with the approval of DIGP (ICR) Tumme Amo, to conduct a focused inquiry into Nirjuli Police Station Case No. 92/2025, registered under Sections 108/271/272/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The SIT, led by DySP Kengo Dirchi, includes Inspector Talom Moya Nekam, SI Gopal Tok, Head Constable (SG) Dakter Lombi, SCL Sanu Raj and Constable (Driver) Hano Pii. The team has been directed to collect key evidence, conduct coordinated raids, and submit daily progress reports.
Yekar was found hanging in his rented room at Lekhi village on Thursday. Initially treated as an unnatural death, the case turned criminal after his father lodged a detailed complaint naming former Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom and Rural Works Department Executive Engineer Likwang Lowang. Police also recovered several handwritten notes, suspected to be suicide messages.
In a dramatic twist, Lowang was later found dead in Tirap district the same night, in what police suspect to be another instance of suicide. His death has been merged into the ongoing investigation.
With Potom still absconding, the Nirjuli Police on Saturday issued a nationwide lookout notice, releasing his photograph and physical description, and urging citizens to share any leads. Potom is currently posted as Special Under Secretary, PWD, in New Delhi.
Investigators have seized multiple mobile phones for forensic examination, while experts are also analyzing blood samples mentioned in the suicide notes. Raids and search operations are taking place across several locations as the police close in on crucial evidence.
