NAHARLAGUN, Sep 5: In a significant breakthrough against drugs, the Naharlagun Police apprehended a drug peddler and seized contraband drugs in Forest Colony, Naharlagun, as part of the ongoing Operation Dawn. Acting on credible information, a swift and coordinated operation was carried out by the local police, leading to the arrest of the accused, identified as 32-year-old Tanga Ngute, a resident of Forest Colony Damsite.
The police team, led by SDPO Paul Jerang, Inspector K. Dev (Officer-in-Charge, Naharlagun PS), SI Niri Rama, and constables Debojit Borah, Tape Hagging, and Sanu Raaj, executed the raid with precision. The operation was conducted under the supervision of SP Naharlagun Mihin Gambo and supported by Khoda Bath, SDO Naharlagun.
Upon searching the accused's residence, the police recovered 24 vials of suspected heroin weighing 31.2 grams. Additionally, they seized 6 empty vials and 24 Lorazepam tablets (48 grams), for which the accused had no medical prescription.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Naharlagun Police Station, and further investigations are currently underway to identify other individuals involved in the network.
Operation Dawn, which has been intensifying its crackdown on drug trafficking in the region, aims to curb the rising drug abuse and peddling activities in Naharlagun. The police have reaffirmed their commitment to continuing such operations to rid the community of illegal substances.
Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help in the collective fight against the drug epidemic, stated a release.
