YINGKIONG, Mar 16: In an effort to sensitize the locals living in the vicinity of the Mauling National Park about the importance of protecting wildlife and the environment, Adi Student Union (AdiSU) conducted a one day mass awareness programme with the help of Department of Environment & Forest at Jengging Town, Upper Siang District on March 15 last.

Highlighting the objective of the programme, EAC, Yingkiong, Jumte Jini stressed on the need to protect and preserve the wildlife under Mouling National Park by involving unemployed youth of the area, which in return will help them generate sustainable income.

District Forest Officer, Boken Pao in brief informed the gathering about many endangered species living in the park like Clouded Leopard, Goral, Himalayan Black Bear, Musk Deer and Sarow etc.

He urged  the students, youth, PRl leaders and people of Jengging Circle to stop hunting and illegal killing of wild animals in and around the park and asked the local community to join hands with forest department in conservation of rich flora and fauna to maintain ecosystem.

Underscoring that conservation of wildlife has become increasingly important due to the negative effects of human activity on wildlife, General Secretary, AdiSU, Buteng Tayeng called for new understanding among the locals in protecting the wildlife present under the park.

Bodak Jongkey, ZPM, Jengging, ASM Karko,  Mone Apang along with few executives members of ADIsu were also present on the occasion.
