YUPIA, Mar 23: An orientation training on leprosy was conducted today here at the DMO office attended by the officials from the Health department.
Jt. DHS Dr R.D. Tabyo while sharing the history of the dreaded disease that carried a strong social stigma from time immemorial informed that its prevalence in Arunachal Pradesh is 0.04 per 10000 people. It is still important to wipe out the disease as it leads to disability due to delays in case detection, he added. DMO Papum Pare Dr K. Perme said that in order to prevent disability among leprosy patients, the thumb rule is early detection followed by commencement of treatment and requested the ASHAs to be vigilant. Dr Aruna Tana Likha gave a detailed PPT on the epidemiology of leprosy.
In the afternoon session a similar orientation on malaria was also held with NVBDCP Consultant Dr Tumge Loyi playing the role of Resource Person. Altogether 65 ASHAs and PMWs attended the training. DIPRO
