ITANAGAR, Jan 29: Following the assurance from state government on demands related  to action against illegal Masjid  constructions, unlawful immigration and unregulated weekly markets in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR), the Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organisation (APIYO)  has called off its proposed “Delhi Chalo- Foot March”.
Addressing a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club here on Thursday, APIYO General Secretary Tapor Maying said  that the government  has assured to take action  on its key demands like  immediate cancellation and demolition of illegally constructed Jama Masjid and Madrasa structures within the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR), identification and deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from Itanagar and Naharlagun, and an immediate ban on weekly markets operating in the twin capital towns and adjoining areas including Doimukh and Hollongi.
Maying also stated that APIYO had sought the recognition of one authorised Jama Masjid within the capital region, while strictly opposing unauthorised religious structures. Terming the government’s response a “positive step”, he expressed confidence that the decisions would be implemented promptly at the ground level.
He extended gratitude to Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Home Minister Mama Natung for taking cognisance of APIYO’s concerns and responding decisively.
Reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to safeguarding indigenous rights, Maying said APIYO would continue to remain vigilant to protect the demographic balance and cultural identity of Arunachal Pradesh.
Meanwhile, he announced that the proposed march rally, ‘Delhi Chalo Abhiyan’, has been officially called off following the government’s assurance and acceptance of their demands.
Team APIYO announced that the suspension of the agitation, expressing hope for timely, transparent and effective implementation of the government’s assurances in the larger interest of indigenous people of the state.
