ITANAGAR, Sep 3: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) on Friday served seven days ultimatum to the Social Justice & Empowerment & Tribal Affairs (SJETA) Secretary Niharika Rai for publishing the proposed draft in the Offspring issue.
Addressing mediapersons here at the Press Club, AAPSU President Hawa Bagang said, “It is disheartening that SJETA took two years for framing a single draft in the matter of the Offspring issue of Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe (APST) mother and non-APST father enjoying ST benefits in the state”.
The delay in publishing a basic draft proposal, even after several sittings and verbal pleadings reflects the non-serious attitude of the concerned department which shows that unless pressure is build, no work is done by the government officials, he slammed.
“Many non-APST offsprings who are born and settled in the state might claim themselves as Arunachalee in coming years which is a threat to the indigenous people of the state, and its culture, language and land”, said Bagang, adding that anything against state interest will be taken seriously by the Union for which the concern authority will be held responsible.
Bagang claimed that the union has a list of eighty non-APST offsprings owning APST certificate and enjoying the benefits in the state, when asked regarding the data of non-APST Offspring settled in the state.
Accordingly, he warned officers responsible for issuing APST certificate to non-APST offsprings to be punished as per law. Due to such irresponsible behavior, now Chakma-Hajong refugees are also demanding citizenship in our land, stated the AAPSU President.
“We have served seven days ultimatum as the Secretary, SJETA had promised to publish the draft within the same time period, and if the concerned authority fails to publish the proposed draft within the timeframe, the union will go beyond any democratic movement," said Bagang.
