ITANAGAR, Apr 16:A workshop cum training on National Pension System (NPS) was organised by the Directorate of Accounts & Treasuries, Government of Arunachal Pradesh in collaboration with Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) and National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) at the Dorjee Khandu Convention centre at Itanagar.

Kaling Tayeng, In-charge Chief Secretary explained in detail the benefits of NPS over GPF or General Provident Fund, which was the pension system adopted by the government before NPS. He said that NPS, in which the government makes an equal contribution, is beneficial to both the employees as well as the government. He urged the officers to attend the entire workshop to learn the nuances of this pension system so as to effectively implement it in their respective districts.

In 2007, the Government of Arunachal Pradesh had introduced NPS for all its regular employees who were appointed on or after 1st January 2008. Here, a government servant has to contribute 10% of his Basic Pay, Dearness Pay and Dearness Allowance while the government too makes an equal matching contribution.

The training was attended by the all the Finance and Accounts Officers, Treasury Officers and Sub Treasury officers. Secretary Finance, YW Ringu, Director, Accounts & Treasuries, Techi Tedi were also present in the session amongst others.
