PASIGHAT, Dec 9: With the Panchayat elections 2025 on the horizon, Panchayat election observer for East Siang district Pige Ligu, PE convened a crucial review meeting with the district administration today to assess and streamline the electoral machinery.
The Observer held detailed discussions with all Returning Officers (ROs), Assistant Returning Officers (AROs), Nodal Officers and Sector Magistrates of the district. The primary agenda was to take stock of the preparations made so far and to underscore the protocol for conducting free, fair, and clean elections.
In his address, the Observer meticulously outlined the roles and responsibilities of the electoral officers. He emphasized that their paramount duty is to ensure the "transparency and accountability of candidates" throughout the election process. "Our main focus is to uphold the integrity of the democratic exercise," he stated.
Acknowledging the challenges of the modern information age, the Observer issued a stern caution regarding the use of social media. He advised the concerned officers to handle every aspect of the election process with utmost care and diligence, noting that "social media may impact the process and may make big issues out of minor errors." This remark highlighted the need for heightened vigilance and prompt, measured responses to any emerging situation. “Concerned officer need to keep paper work good and discretion while dealing with the public”, he added.
The Observer expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness demonstrated by the East Siang district administration. He commended the officials for their diligent work in setting the stage for a smooth electoral process.
Earlier in the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani, presented a comprehensive roadmap for the upcoming elections to the Observer. The DC affirmed that "all the government machineries are set ready to deal with the process," assuring that every necessary arrangement—from security to logistics—has been put in place.
The meeting concluded on a note of collective resolve, with all officers reaffirming their commitment to facilitating a peaceful, transparent, and successful Panchayat election in the district. DIPRO
