ITANAGAR, Mar 14: The NSS unit of Dera Natung Government College which has always acted as the forefront of community service and welfare added another feather in their cap by adopting Ganga village, Itanagar as a part of resolution made during a three-day long special camping program which concluded on Sunday last.

The event under the supervision of Programme Officers, Tao Abo, Nich Menia along with 200 NSS volunteers didn’t fail to comply with the theme of the event ‘Cleanliness and Beautification’: Day 1 of the camp saw the volunteers crafting Eco-friendly bamboo dustbins (smart-bins), garbage picking and sweeping the streets following with dustbin installation and garbage disposal with the surprise participants of many local residents assisting the volunteers on Day 2. A special interaction session cum awareness program was conducted on Day 3 attended by Principal Tok Kumar among others.

Tok in his speech exhorted the volunteers to study hard and contribute towards the development of society. Tumbom Jomoh, who donated green dustbins out of her own expenses exhorted the gathering to come forward for nation building and emphasized the importance of sanitation and hygiene in today’s world.

The objective behind the event was to inspire the gathering with the story of Mawlynnong, Asia's cleanest village and to replicate the same notion in their own respective villages or surroundings.
